Practice Story/Empathy

Alina Sunoo

Stepping into the drafty room, I am greeted by the dozens of rows of books. I do not acknowledge them, but go directly to my chair. With a sigh, I begin bookkeeping. Two men enter the library and begin talking, but I barely notice. I am too bored to care.

  1. I really like this one! That would be so much fun to have that many books, although reaching the higher shelves would be an issue. I assume it is located in the library, or is it somewhere else on campus?

  2. I love how you entered into this picture and what the person may really be feeling in anticipation of another long day in the library. To some, the library is a place of solace and peace, but the same quiet may mean boredom to others.

  3. I completely relate to this scene. When I go somewhere like a library with that many books the rest of the world just disappears. Then at the end the plot twist changed the whole point of the story. I saw it as a plot twist because the story seems to describe a peaceful and relaxing scene and then we discover the narrator is bored.
