Practice Story and Empathy

Some Tangents Have Gone On For Too Long

Jacqui McPeck

“I swear, if you make one more math pun, I’m going to measure the circumference of your neck!”
“Oh, don’t be so 2, you know I can’t  f(x) without them!”
“You should know that they’re the first sin of madness! I’m trying to help!”
“No, you’re just being a d3x/dt3!”

  1. Heyo! A little reader friendly context:
    1) The square root of 2 is an irrational number
    2) f(x) is a function
    3) sin (sine) is a trig function
    4) d^3x/dt^3 is the third order derivative of a position vs. time function, otherwise known as a "jerk".

  2. Jacqui, I really enjoyed reading your dialogue regarding the photo and your very clever incorporation of math puns! It reminds me of my high school calculus teacher who never failed to let a day pass without sharing a new pun.
