I decided to choose the “Participate in the ‘Third Industrial
Revolution’” project. This project entailed that I design something such as a
font or shoes. This project is showing how important customization is becoming
in terms of buying consumer goods.
I knew I wanted to design a Vans Shoes but I had an issue
deciding what it should like. I tried listening to various Disney songs and reading
my beloved collection of Garfield
comics, but nothing seemed to help. So, like any other bored young adult, I
went on Facebook. I was scrolling through my feed and I saw some pictures from
Traditiation. Those pictures reminded that I didn’t have many pieces of clothing
that were my residence hall’s (Duvall, the best residence hall) colors, pink
and green. I finally had an idea of what my shoe should look like.
I decided to use neon green and neon pink as the two primary
colors because I believed that they complemented each other nicely. I used an
old school style of shoe because I wear that style of shoe now and I enjoy it a
lot. I originally had the neon green on the front back, but the stripe didn’t
come in neon green. That obstacle forced me to flip the colors but I think it
worked out for the better. I tweaked a few little details but I finally ended
up with the shoes in the picture up above. The only thing I would do with the
shoes that I can’t do is write my name given to me during Traditiation, Royal
Moses, on the shoe.
I really wanted to make these shoes as a memento of some
sort. I really enjoyed my time at Traditiation and met a lot of great people. I
also saw Traditiation as a start of a new chapter in my life and I figured
these would be a great reminder of that.

I love the inspiration you found for your shoe! I think basing the design of consumer goods on memories shows a lot of potential for a successful business. Just think, you designed this shoe in honor of your hall, so there's already a huge community of people that could be interested in purchasing it without the company having to do much work at all. With that many people interested in your shoe, I'm sure you could also suggest that Vans allows its customers to add words to the shoe, allowing you to "customize" the company and the product. Awesome!
