Practice Pink's Sense of Design: Put it on a Table

My Meaningful Kenyan Flag Bracelet

When I look at this bracelet, it makes me think about a plethora of things. I think of what the Kenyan Flag represents including independence, sacrifice, land, peace, and the defense of those things. The Maasai beads the bracelet is made out of makes me think of the Maasai people who have held fast to their customs and beliefs, as well as a particular Maasai girl, Jane Timanoi, who can talk just about anybody's ear off and has told me countless stories about when she was living with her grandmother in Maasai Land. I think of my volunteer friend Maike who had it made by a family member of a co-worker for me. It makes me think of what Kenya is to me; a place that I love filled with people that I love. It brings back memories from the time that I spent in Kenya, and all that I learned there.
I cant smell, or taste my bracelet, but I can hear the sound of my nails against the beads, feel the bumpy texture and strength of the bracelet, and see the colors and pattern it displays. The bracelet simply gives a sense of comfort.
Sensory clues that I receive from the object influence the way I think and feel about the object. I made meaningful connections between the colors and pattern on the bracelet to what the bracelet signifies. The strength and quality of the bracelet remind me of my affinity towards Kenya and Kenyans.
Other mundane objects don't give a sense of comfort or remind me of something or someone that I love.
I chose this object to "put on the table" because I knew I was connected to it and its design emotionally, and I wanted to explore that.

Your bracelet is beautiful and the way you describe it helps to share some about your friends and experiences in Kenya to someone who has no experience or knowledge about Kenya. I'd love to learn more sometime about what you did there! Thanks for sharing that.
