My Participation in the Third Revolution

     If you're anything like me, you love Nike shoes. I remember walking into the shoe store to buy soccer cleats as a kid. The brightly colored Nike shoes always instantly caught my eye. I would rush up to the display and gaze at the neon pinks, blues, greens, and purples branded with the iconic glossy silver and gold Nike swooshes.

     Since then, Nike has always been my go-to brand for shoes. There are many reasons for this. For one, they are very comfortable and great for running. Nike shoes also tend to run narrower, making them a perfect fit for my narrow heel. The biggest attraction for me, however, has always been and continues to be the design. Because of this, when asked to practice Pink's sense of design I jumped at the chance to try designing my own unique pair of Nike shoes.

     First I went to the Nike website and clicked on "customize". I was then asked to choose a pair of shoes to start with. I went with the Nike DualTone Racer iD. Next I was prompted to choses colors for the various parts of the shoe, including the base, tongue, heel, laces, swoosh, and more.

     Finally, I got to view my finished product (pictured above). I was very satisfied with the result, and the product was more appealing to me than normal because I was given the opportunity to choose the design I wanted. Overall, this experience led me to the conclusion that people are more likely to buy custom products because it gives them the ability to create products that meet their expectations. Overall, designing my own pair of Nike shoes helped me to better understand Pink's argument for design's ability to increase products' appeal in a growing market.
