During my time at On Track Academy, I was surprised how easy talking to
the students there was. I am not that outgoing, so I thought it would be more
awkward than it was. It was surprisingly easy to talk to the students, and they
were very interested in hearing what we had to say about college life. I feel that
our conversations about college will help these kids with figuring out what
they need to do to apply to a university, and hopefully help them decide what
they will do after high school. On track was unlike any school I have seen
before. The fact that it is catered to students who have to support their
family, or have other issues at home is quite amazing. Because of their family
situations, many of the kids were very independent and outgoing. My time at On
Track showed me how easy and fun it is working in a team. All of the activities
we participated in required teamwork, which allowed us to better connect with
and understand the students. It also gave the students an opportunity to use
their talents to help us with the activities. Teamwork can change your
perspective of a person and is a major part of community building. Community,
in my opinion, is a small area where people live together, and are some way
connected. I feel that community building day was a great way for us to come
together as a school and a community to help out those in our area. The support
from our community at Whitworth can make a huge difference, and I feel that our
support and service to On Track will really help the students there plan out a
future, or just help them feel they have support. Community building day was an
amazing experience, and I feel that it is such an important event here at
Whitworth.
